Harry Maguire has revealed he has an “amazing relationship” with a former Manchester United centre-back.
Harry Maguire’s time at Manchester United has been the definition of inconsistent, but not necessarily because of his performances, but because of the support he has received from the fanbase, the managerial overhaul, and the form of the club.
He has to play alongside several different defenders throughout his time, and under three permanent managers, with a handful of interims too.
Under Michael Carrick, Maguire has once again become one of the most important players at Old Trafford and moved back over to the left in the absence of Lisandro Martínez.
His current contract expires at the end of the season, but recent reports have suggested that United will look to keep the former captain at the club.
Maguire reveals “amazing relationship”
Under Ole Gunnar Solsjkær, Maguire usually partnered Victor Lindelöf, with Maguire playing on the left and the Sweden international playing on the right – often finding Marcus Rashford with his standout passing ability.
Speaking to the club, Maguire said: “I think Victor [Lindelöf] was an excellent player. I believe he didn’t get the credit he deserved when he was playing at this club, although he obviously played so many games, and he always played under managers.
“But he was an excellent player, and we had an amazing relationship on the pitch.”
He continued to say: “The first two years, I think, if I’m right, we kept the most clean sheets in Europe in the first year, and maybe second or third in the second season.
“We kept loads of clean sheets, we defended properly, we defended well.
“So I’ve probably played the most games with Victor, and I believe our relationship on the pitch was as strong as I’ve had with anybody.”

Should United have kept Lindelöf?
Maguire will reunite with Lindelöf on Sunday afternoon as Aston Villa make the trip to Old Trafford for an important Premier League match in the Champions League race.
Lindelöf has played 20 matches for Aston Villa this season, showing he can play for a Champions League-challenging team in the Premier League. So, with that being said, should United have kept Lindelöf?

Short answer: no. United’s centre-back options are more than capable of playing in the absence of De Ligt and Martínez, with Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro waiting in the wings.
Even if United continued with the back three, Lindelöf would’ve been sixth or even seventh choice centre-back, behind Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw.
