Harry Maguire exit latest with Manchester United “doing due diligence” for Erik ten Hag
Manchester United are said to be doing “due diligence” on a number of central defenders in the case of Harry Maguire leaving the club this summer.
Harry Maguire was recently stripped of the Manchester United captaincy, with Erik ten Hag opting to elect a new captain ahead of the 2023/24 season.
It is a decision that did not come as a surprise to many, with the England international only starting eight Premier League fixtures last term.
United are now said to be preparing ahead of time in the case of Maguire’s potential exit from the club this summer.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has explained that the club have started doing due diligence on “various” centre-backs so that if Harry Maguire leaves this summer, they will be able to swiftly re-enter the transfer market for a replacement.
On Tuesday morning, reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that AS Monaco and French international Axel Disasi is a “serious option” for Erik ten Hag, and could be a great addition to the squad as an understudy for Raphael Varane.
Plettenberg also explained that David Moyes is an admirer of Maguire, although West Ham have already had one bid rejected for the centre-back and are unsure if they should attempt to sign him on a permanent basis – United would “like” to sell Maguire this summer
Harry Maguire was reportedly “angry, shocked and upset” when he was informed that he will no longer be United captain, with Chelsea said to be one club interested in the player.
