Chelsea are said to be eyeing up a move for Harry Maguire after Erik ten Hag stripped him of his Manchester United captaincy.

Manchester United will head into the 2023/24 Premier League season with a new captain after Erik ten Hag decided that Harry Maguire should no longer hold the title.

The information was released through an official statement made by Maguire, where he said he was “extremely disappointed” but would continue to give his all for the club.

However, according to Charlie Wyett from The Sun, his reaction was a little different behind the scenes – Maguire is said to have been “angry, shocked and upset” when he was delivered the news.

Further to this, Wyett claims that the £80 million defender is now ready to leave Old Trafford in pursuit of pastures new.

The report claims that Maguire currently holds the interest of four Premier League clubs: Chelsea, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United.

Beyond the English domestic league, Inter Milan and Saudi clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are also namechecked as potential destinations.

Although United initially set Maguire’s valuation at £50m, this is likely to drop down towards £30m as the club need to raise funds in order to sign a striker and second midfielder before the window closes.
