Harry Kane has denied rumours that he was willing to wait to sign for Manchester United next summer until Erik ten Hag signed Rasmus Højlund.

It was reported by Chris Wheeler on Tuesday afternoon that Harry Kane was willing to wait at Tottenham Hotspur until next summer in order to sign for Manchester United as long as he had reassurances of the move.

However, Erik ten Hag ultimately decided to sign Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta instead in a £72 million deal, with Tottenham demanding over nine figures for Kane.

Ultimately, Kane decided to move to Bayern Munich in an £86m transfer that could rise up to £100m depending on add-ons, and this decision was said to be made as a result of Højlund signing for The Reds.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference with Bayern preparing to face United, Kane has set the record straight, explaining that Bayern was always the main club on his mind.

“I know there was some talks between a few clubs in the background but Bayern was a team I was really interested by,” he explained to reporters on Tuesday.

“There weren’t many other discussions. My focus is on here. Obviously, Manchester (United) are a great club, but I decided to come here and I’m happy I have.”

Bayern Munich and Manchester United will face off at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening in their opening fixture of the 2023/24 Champions League season.
