Manchester United were eager to sign Harry Kane at the beginning of the summer but have since opted to bring in young striker Rasmus Hojlund instead.

It was made clear by Daniel Levy earlier in the transfer window that Tottenham Hotspur would not sell to a Premier League rival. United swiftly moved onto other business before returning to the no.9 position and signing Hojlund.

The 20-year-old talent is a completely different option to Kane, who is the finished product and a guarantee in England’s top flight. The Dane, however, has the potential to go along a solid skillset right now.

“He has been their main target for months and they know he will improve compared to Harry Kane who was mentioned by the media for a long time,” Former Man United defender Paul Parker told Spilxperten.

The 59-year-old also believes that United’s new signing offers more in his overall game than the goalscoring great, who he believes was never a real target of the manager at Old Trafford.

“But Erik ten Hag never wanted Harry Kane, I can promise you that,” he added. “He is just a goalscorer in name and Hojlund offers a lot more than Harry Kane, that’s for sure.

“He wants to be a part of the team instead of just seeing his name on the scoreboard. Hojlund is quick, strong and yes, he is an unfinished product but I truly believe Man United have given their fans the gift of the year by signing him instead of Harry Kane.”

The former Atalanta striker only scored nine goals in the Serie A last term, but if you take that number in relation to his minutes played – which was just over 2,000 – it looks more impressive.

Parker, who spent five years at United, also believes that Kane is dishonest in his transfer approach. The Spurs striker has previously looked likely to leave the club but ultimately remained.

Now, with latest reports stating that the North London club have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for the striker, there are still uncertainties about whether he will actually leave.

“I also think Man United just signed a very honest player. I can see it when I look at him and watch the interviews with him,” Parker said of Hojlund. “He is honest compared to Harry Kane who can´t even come out and say what he wants.

“Tottenham’s fans are waiting for Harry Kane to say something but he doesn’t have that honesty about him to tell the fans if he wants to stay or if he wants to leave.

“Does he really want to leave Spurs? I don’t think so but at least he should come out and say something. I´m delighted that Man United signed Rasmus Hojlund instead of Harry Kane, I can’t say it in a more direct way.”

Kane’s hesitancy so late in the window is something that would’ve made alarm bells ring if United were in the German club’s place.

Many believe that his qualities are almost unmatched within European football, however. He scored more than 30 Premier League goals in a single campaign for the second time in his career last term.
