Harry Kane has heaped praise on Manchester United’s Raphaël Varane as an Old Trafford exit for the Frenchman this summer is confirmed.

When Manchester United announced Raphaël Varane on August 14, 2021, it quickly became one of the most iconic signing unveilings in recent history.

The former Real Madrid man stepped onto the Old Trafford turf dressed in a full-back suit and tie, holding a Manchester United shirt as he walked into the centre circle after signing for £27 million. United went on to smash Leeds United 5-1 on the opening day of the season.

However, fast-forward three years, and Varane will leave Manchester United for free. INEOS are refusing to extend his contract because they want to eradicate the bloated wage deals the club has handed out over the years.

Kane’s praise

During their respective times in the Premier League and Champions League, Varane and Kane have played each other on six occasions – three times in the league, twice in Europe, and once internationally, during the 2022 World Cup.

With this in mind, Kane has chosen Varane’s speed as a huge asset to the former French international.

“Do you know who’s really quick? Varane,” Kane told GOAL when asked to build the ultimate centre-back to stop him scoring.

Although Varane is set to leave once his contract expires at the end of June, he is expected to play for Manchester United again this season.

He has been absent since a 4-3 loss against Chelsea at the beginning of April, but Erik ten Hag has previously expressed confidence that Varane will return before the FA Cup final against Manchester City next week.
