Manchester United are preparing themselves for several offers from Championship sides for Old Trafford’s new star after he “played really well” against Wolverhampton Wanderers
Ruben Amorim’s injury-filled squad has led to several unlikely debutants this season, including former Arsenal duo Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi.
Heaven and Obi have proved to be valuable assets to Amorim, with the striker’s playing time likely to increase before the end of the season due to Joshua Zirkzee’s hamstring injury.
Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson have also been added to the first team squad, and both made their first Old Trafford start in Sunday’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The United manager said that both the academy graduates “deserved better” as they both “played really well” during the disappointing 1-0 defeat.
Championship clubs interested in Amass loan
After impressing against Wolves, and in his other appearances against Leicester City and Olympique Lyonnais, Amass is set to be subject to many loan offers from Championship clubs for next season, as per GiveMeSport.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City are said to be very keen on winning the race for the left back following their relegation. Amass made his first-team debut at the King Power Stadium last month.
The Foxes were reportedly interested in Amass in January, but the former Watford defender chose to remain at United for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
The aforementioned report also mentioned that Amass could remain at Old Trafford next season, as the intention is to have one regular starter (likely Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu) and one backup for each position on the pitch.
It was further explained that some at the club believe that Amass is good enough to challenge for that position on the left flank next term. Unless the right opportunity comes, it seems more likely that the England youth international will remain at the club.
Luke Shaw is another left wing back option, but his frequent muscle injuries could mean he is suited to a less intense position, most likely as the left centre-back.
Amass should be kept next season
With the arrival of Diego Leon in the summer transfer window, the plan for the left wing-back position needs to be decided as soon as possible.
Leon is set to be included in the first team’s pre-season squad, but at just 18 when the season starts, he is unlikely to be ready for minutes in Amorim’s team immediately.
The Paraguayan’s transfer should be treated like Sekou Kone’s move to Old Trafford, playing under-21s football until having transitioned to life in Manchester.
Amass should be kept until at least January, providing competition for Dorgu on the left flank, while Shaw moves back to the three-man defence.
If in January, Leon is deemed ready for first-team football, Amass could potentially be loaned out to the Championship or even a lower Premier League side.
