Former Manchester United chief scout claims Rúben Amorim is forcing one star out of the club

Former Manchester United chief scout, Mick Brown, has claimed that Rúben Amorim is forcing one star out of the club this summer

Rúben Amorim will look to make significant changes to the playing squad this summer, with no Champions League or Europa League football next season, there will be far too many players at the club.

With European football, Manchester United would need a squad upwards of 25 players, especially considering how many injuries they’ve had in the last few years, but with just Premier League football, Amorim may only need 18 senior players, with the option of using the academy if necessary.

Jason Wilcox and the rest of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recruitment team will look to move on older players with high wages, who they believe won’t be willing to stay for the entirety of Amorim’s long-term rebuild beginning this summer.

Players like Casemiro and Luke Shaw are the most obvious players to be moved on, due to their high wages. The Brazilian, at 33 years old, won’t be able to play a key role in United’s development and Shaw’s struggle with injuries doesn’t justify his high salary.

However, it is another name that former chief scout, Mick Brown, claims will be leaving Old Trafford this summer, with Amorim said to be “forcing” him out.

Garnacho set to leave United

Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Amorim has been trying to move on Alejandro Garnacho for “months”, as the Argentine doesn’t fit his style of play.

The 20-year-old was reportedly left “unhappy” after being left out of the Europa League final starting 11 against Tottenham Hotspur for Mason Mount, having impressed in earlier rounds.

When asked for a comment, Brown said: “It looks like Garnacho will be leaving this summer, he was upset about being left out of the team for Europa League final, which is understandable.

“But this isn’t a decision that has been made overnight, it’s been going on for months. Amorim has been forcing and pushing him out, because he feels he’s not the right fit for his system and the way he wants to play.”

The former scout added: “We know the club are fine with him leaving as well, because they want to make some money. He’s an academy player, who the money they make from his sale is all profit, and that’s what they’ve been looking at.“

Sell-on clause crucial in Garnacho sale

If United are to sell Garnacho this summer, including a big sell-on clause is crucial in the deal, or the Red Devils will regret the decision for years to come.

Manchester City have become well-known for this in recent times, selling academy talent for a good fee, with a high sell-on percentage, so when they go on to become good players, they reap the reward.

While United should get a good fee for Garnacho compared to what City have got for their talent, the winger could easily become a £100 million player in the future if he develops in a good environment.

Therefore, including a sell-on clause of at least 25% could see United gain £25 million, if not more, for a player who left the club after the worst season in Premier League history.
