Five record-breaking statistics that show Erik ten Hag’s impact at Manchester United
Erik ten Hag has completely turned around Manchester United’s fortunes since joining the club after the conclusion of last season.
United broke their trophy drought after the Dutchman led them to glory in the Carabao Cup and currently see themselves comfortably sitting in third place in the Premier League.
Ten Hag’s men are also still competing on two other fronts as they await round-of-16 fixtures in the Europa League against Real Betis and an FA Cup quarter-final clash against Fulham.
It’s been a stark turnaround from the worst Premier League point total from last season and there is much to be excited about at the Theatre of Dreams.
Ten Hag has influenced much of the positive change at the club – the five following statistics show certain areas where the Dutchman has been influential at the club.
Changing things early
One noticeable aspect of Ten Hag’s in-game management has been his proactiveness when things aren’t going United’s way. The manager has made 18 changes at half-time so far this season in just 41 games.
We’ve often seen slow starts for The Reds, but adjustments and substitutes have helped improve performances, and thus results.
Substitutes making an impact
Not only is Ten Hag making changes, but he’s making the right ones and his decisions are paying off.
It’s easy enough to shuffle the pack when things aren’t going your way, but the United boss has a keen tactical eye when watching from the sidelines and makes changes which will benefit his team in several different manners.
United have had 20 goals scored from substitutes so far this term, which is the most of any team in any of Europe’s top five leagues.
Finding the winning run
After the opening two games of the season, it seemed there would need to be an adjustment period for Ten Hag and his side. That makes it even more impressive when you see how quickly the manager was able to churn out wins.
Ten Hag won 20 games as United manager after just 27 fixtures in charge. That is the fasted a manager at Old Trafford has reached that win total – Sir Alex Ferguson had only won 11 times in his first 29 games in charge of the club.
The Dutchman’s ability to adjust to the Premier League and continue to develop his team has been extremely impressive.
Boasting an impressive win percentage
The United manager and his team have continued to produce impressive results despite the heavy fixture congestion.
So far, Ten Hag boasts a 73.1 win percentage at the club, an extremely impressive number when compared to United’s previous management. Jose Mourinho had the most success post-Sir Alex and had a win percentage of 58 before he was dismissed.
Making Old Trafford a fortress again
Perhaps the restoration of fear in opponents when they visit Old Trafford is the most pleasing aspect of Ten Hag’s tenure so far.
After teams looked like they enjoyed travelling to the stadium last season, United are now unbeaten at the Theatre of Dreams since early September, which has lasted 19 games. That includes just two draws and an impressive 17 wins.
A solid base at home is the staple of every great team and Ten Hag bringing back the fear factor at Old Trafford is a promising sign for the future.
