Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United unlikely to sell “top player” in January transfer window
Manchester United are figuring out ways to make signings for Ruben Amorim in the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim joined the club in November and has since provided some positive steps towards his ideal playing style despite mixed form.
Nevertheless, it is quite clear that the United boss needs signings in key positions so that his system can work more effectively.
After poor spending in recent years, the Reds are in a precarious financial position and find themselves in a position where they need to sell to buy this month.
That has led to rumours about several players – such as Marcus Rashford, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho – either being sold or loaned out in the January transfer window.
Romano delivers Shaw transfer update
The future of Luke Shaw has not been spoken about a lot, with the left-back currently injured once again after a setback at the start of last month.
He is closing in on a return to action but some would claim that United should try and cash in on him this month to make room for new signings.
However, Fabrizio Romano has clarified that movement around the England international is unlikely for January, although suggests things could change once the season is over.
“I don’t see any movement for Luke Shaw in January, it’s quiet at the moment,” Romano explained in his GiveMeSport column.
“In the summer there could be changes, but now it’s quiet.
“In any case, Man United are looking for a left wingback because Shaw and Tyrell Malacia had many problems, so that position could be covered.”
It is no surprise that Shaw is unlikely to move on this month. His quality is unquestionable but many teams would be wary of his dire injury record.
Amorim supporting “top player” Shaw
United fans have become frustrated with Shaw and his injuries. That feeling has been amplified this season after he decided to play for England at Euro 2024.
However, Amorim has been sure to show his support for the injured defender, who he believes can be a “top player” when he is fit.
In fact, things are quite simple for Amorim, who will defend his players against everything if they show that they are working hard. That is what Shaw has done.
“Since I arrive I see him in the medical department, working a lot in the gym and working a lot on the pitch,” said Amorim of Shaw after his last injury setback.
“We control the load during the games and trainings, he was losing weight, doing everything. If he continues that behaviour, he is a top player and we need him.

“No matter how long he needs, I will be with him. We will help him to return. Not just Manchester United, but your national team needs a guy like Luke Shaw, so we are here to help him.”
