Fabrizio Romano has explained what he believes to be the “most complicated decision” for Manchester United currently that isn’t about Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag has faced a challenging start to the season, with Manchester United securing just three wins from their first eight games across all competitions.

Consecutive 3-0 defeats at home to Liverpool and Tottenham in the Premier League have increased the pressure on the Dutch manager.

Despite considering other managerial options in the summer, INEOS opted to support Ten Hag, extending his contract until 2026.

However, there are growing concerns surrounding the Dutchman after the poor start to the campaign.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the board are still backing Ten Hag and also mentions another “complicated situation” at the club right now.

Leny Yoro was one of the most exciting summer signings after United beat Real Madrid to the signing of the young centre-back.

The Frenchman suffered an injury on the club’s pre-season tour but is slowly approaching a comeback to the pitch. Yet, United are split on how to integrate him after a long absence.

Speaking on his podcast, Romano said: “This is probably the most complicated situation to handle for Manchester United, because on one side, they want to see Leny Yoro back as soon as possible, but on the other side, they don’t want to force his return too early.

“Because in case he gets another injury, obviously that could be a big problem for May United and for the player. This is a long-term investment.

“This is considered a generational talent for his position as a centre-back. So Man United staff are working with him, are absolutely monitoring his progress on a daily basis, hoping to have him really soon.

“Man United are quite optimistic, but they will not force anything.”

It is, of course, also difficult to try and integrate young players into a struggling team with a toxic environment around the club.

With other senior centre-backs such as Lisandro Martínez and Matthijs de Ligt, it would not be surprising to see United take that prolonged approach with Yoro once he is back fit.
