Fabrizio Romano: Key difference in Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres ‘gentlemen agreements’ is good news for Man Utd

Fabrizio Romano has explained the gentleman’s agreement Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko has with RB Leipzig and there is a key difference to Viktor Gyokeres.

After securing the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United are now hoping to strengthen in the no.9 position this summer.

Options upfront are becoming limited after Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres moved to Chelsea and Arsenal, respectively, as they were two of United’s preferred targets.

Some reports have claimed that a move for Benjamin Sesko is out of reach for United as they cannot afford the amount it will take to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig.

However, Fabrizio Romano has stated that United are still in the race and also provided interesting details about a potential deal for the young striker.

Fabrizio Romano explains Sesko latest

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that the next week will be ‘very important’ for the Sesko deal and revealed that Newcastle are pushing for an agreement.

The Italian journalist then stated that Untied are still discussing the 22-year-old internally but suggested that they would be a club who fit into the category of Sesko’s gentleman’s agreement with Leipzig.

“Manchester United are still discussing Benjamin Seskoo internally, it’s an expensive deal so it’s not easy but don’t forget the gentleman’s agreement I told you about.

“For some clubs, indicated by Benjamin Sesko as ‘special clubs’ for him, the price of the Sesko package can be 70-80 million Euros fixed, with five/ten million Euros in add-ons.”

Should this apply to United, then the Reds could secure a deal for around £65 million, which is still a high price but certainly more realistic than some of the numbers mentioned beforehand.

Key difference in Sesko and Gyokeres ‘gentlemen agreements’

Importantly, though, Romano explained a key difference in the gentleman’s agreement with Sesko and Leipzig after the drama through the Gyokeres saga.

Despite reports about a similar agreement being in place between the Swedish striker and Sporting CP, that was made much more complicated. The club’s president accused Gyokeres’ agent of lying and the saga was drawn out.

Thankfully, if United were to move for Sesko on the basis that this gentleman’s agreement would be in place, it doesn’t seem like a similar outcome would occur as the relationship between the player, agent and club is very good.

“This gentleman’s agreement between Sesko and Leipzig – in very good relationships, the player, the agent and the club – can be an important factor with Newcastle going very big and with Manchester United discussing strikers and Sesko internally,” Romano added.

The last thing United need is for any more drawn out transfer business this summer, but they also need to focus on making player sales so they can afford such a deal for someone like Sesko.
