Fabrizio Romano explains Manchester United’s thought process behind discarding £40m cut-price transfer plans

Fabrizio Romano has expanded on why Manchester United have decided against signing £40m-rated Victor Osimhen this summer.

With a handful of games remaining in this season, the fans of football are already looking forward to what lies ahead in the next season.

For Manchester United fans, their club is already making progress on multiple aspects of the summer window, with both arrivals and departures.

So far, the Red Devils are the favourite to make the introduction of Matheus Cunha next season, along with other forward reinforcements.

While the United loyalists have been buzzing with the transfer news of their club lately, the recent update from Fabrizio Romano on Victor Osimhen demands their attention.

What Romano Said About Osimhen

Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Romano has explained the reasoning why United have chosen against going ahead with his signing.

Previous reports from The Mirror had stated that United were looking to pounce on a cut-price £40 million transfer of the striker. However, following a study of the finances involved, they have turned their heads away from the Nigerian international.

Speaking on his channel on YouTube, Romano said: “He wants the same salary he’s earning at Napoli – €12 million net, plus commissions and his €75 million release clause. No English club is ready to pay him €12 million net.”

While it is increasingly unlikely that Osimhen will be able to secure a move to the Premier League this summer, it is thought that his most likely destination may become the Saudi Pro League.

United told to sign Delap after Cunha

With United still needing a striker, former Premier League forward Alan Shearer has suggested United need to go all-in on securing Ipswich Town frontman Liam Delap this summer.

“They need a top-class centre-forward like Delap, but they need someone like Cunha as well. They need players defensively as well – all around the pitch, they need reinforcements,” Shearer said earlier this week.

“Whether they can go out and spend that much, I don’t know. I suspect that may depend whether they get into the Champions League or not.

“I’ve read that there’s about a £30 million release clause for Liam Delap, which means that someone is going to get a real bargain in that. It isn’t a lot of money for a centre-forward with big potential, like he has.

“He’ll have tons of options, Delap will. When you look at all the clubs who need a centre-forward in the Premier League – Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Spurs – there’ll be huge clubs all looking at Delap.

“There’s no doubt, if it is that amount of money, then he will have big options.”
