Fabrizio Romano: Alejandro Garnacho leaving Manchester United is “story to watch” before January deadline
Fabrizio Romano has explained that a potential Manchester United exit this month for Alejandro Garnacho is the “story to watch” before the deadline.
Manchester United have not yet confirmed any major January deals but there is expected to be movement in the final two weeks of the window.
Some youth loan exits have occurred, such as Ethan Ennis to Doncaster Rovers, and Antony’s departure to Real Betis is expected in the coming days.
However, further exits are needed in order for United to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s side with incomings. Patrick Dorgu has emerged as a clear target, with United in talks with Italian side Lecce over a transfer.
There have been constant rumours surrounding Alejandro Garnacho in recent weeks, who is reportedly available should a club match United’s asking price.
Fabrizio Romano says Garnacho exit is “story to watch”
Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest details on Garnacho’s situation as the transfer deadline day creeps closer.
The Italian journalist explains that United would consider a substantial offer for the 20-year-old but not the £34 million fee that has been rumoured.
However, he also adds that both Napoli and Chelsea are “really interested” in signing the United winger and that it will be a “story to watch” in the final weeks of the window.
“We’re also receiving many questions on Alejandro Garnacho, but that’s a separate topic as it really depends on what kind of proposals Man United will receive,” Romano told GiveMeSport.
“The rumoured €40m is not an option for United to open the door to Garnacho’s exit, but a higher fee could change the scenario.
“Both Napoli and Chelsea are really interested in Garnacho, which is a story to watch in the final two weeks of the January window.”
United fans have mixed feelings over Garnacho exit
Some United fans are open to the idea of Garnacho leaving the club should a high offer be made for the player.
It could help United bring in multiple signings in key positions due to the ‘pure profit’ the club would receive from his sale.
Garnacho also hasn’t looked entirely comfortable in his new role in Amorim’s system.
But others simply cannot believe that United are open to letting an exciting Academy graduate leave simply for financial reasons. Selling him to a Premier League rival would also cause a lot of concern.

United’s DNA is based around giving young players from the Academy a chance to shine and that is exactly what happened with Garnacho.
But those in charge at United have admitted that they will be making unpopular decisions, and we have two weeks to see if this could be another one of those.
