Fabrizio Romano has stated he is not aware of any talks Manchester United are reportedly hosting for a “very good” Serie A star.
Manchester United are closing in on their second signing of the summer, with a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo moving closer to completion.
Following the capture of Matheus Cunha earlier this month, Rúben Amorim is keen to further bolster his attacking options, although negotiations for Mbeumo have been protracted.
United’s opening £55 million offer for the 25-year-old was turned down in early June, but they returned this week with a bid worth over £60 million. Reports indicate that an initial fee has now been agreed, with discussions ongoing over add-ons that could take the total package to around £65 million.
Once Mbeumo’s arrival is confirmed, United are expected to step up plans to offload fringe players and continue their search for both a striker and a midfielder ahead of the Premier League’s mid-August kick-off.
Romano not aware of talks for Carnesecchi
In the last 24 hours, it has been claimed that United are also open to the possibility of signing Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, with André Onana’s future at United currently in doubt.
Football Italia have reported that United are set to make a bid of £33 million for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has admitted that he is “not aware” of any concrete negotiations taking place between United and Atalanta for the “very good” goalkeeper.
“My understanding as of today is that Manchester United have not started any serious or concrete negotiations with Atalanta for Carnesecchi,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel.
“I’m not aware of concrete talks between Manchester United and Atalanta. They’ve been scouting several goalkeepers this year, including Carnesecchi, who is a very good one, but at the moment, to tell you there is a negotiation, there is a bid or whatever, I’m told that we are not at that stage of the story.”
Onana to Monaco strongly denied
Speaking further, Romano also addressed the current rumours surrounding a potential move for Onana to Monaco.
The Italian journalist confirmed that, as of now, there is nothing in the story of the Cameroon international potentially signing for the Ligue 1 side, and that there are “strong denials” from Monaco’s side.
“I keep denying the story on Andre Onana and Monaco because at the moment there is nothing between Andre Onana and Monaco,” Romano explained. “I’m getting strong denials from Monaco.
“They insist that the player is not a target this summer, so that’s the position from Monaco. For Onana, there is some interest from Saudi, but at the moment still no concrete proposal or advanced negotiations.
“And so, if they get a bid for Onana, let’s see what Man United will decide to do for the goalkeeper. Emi Martínez would be keen on a move to Man United, but at the moment no conversations, no negotiations, no talks, just because it’s a player’s desire, but nothing else at the moment.”
