Ex-Manchester United defender Paul Parker has explained why he believes Brighton striker Evan Ferguson is a better value for money signing than Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Manchester United‘s main priority this summer window is a world-class striker – that much is clear.

As Erik ten Hag‘s side has struggled for goals at points in the season just gone, there is no debate that the squad is in need of a new striker to play alongside Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Bruno Fernandes next season.

The debate instead arises when the question is posed of who should that striker be.

United have been linked with several players so far this summer, ranging from proven gunmen Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen to the highly rated young players Rasmus Højlund and Evan Ferguson, but the club are yet to put in an offer for any striker.

Speaking to Apostagolos, Parker has explained that he feels Evan Ferguson would be a better signing for United than Victor Osimhen due to the difference in price tags.

“Everyone knows that Man United needs a centre forward and I would look at Evan Ferguson for that position. I would definitely look at him.

“But with the way he is performing at Brighton, I think the right decision for him would be to stay at Brighton. He will get a lot of games there and they are using him in the right way.

“He is an Irish boy, so I don’t know which side they are backing, whether it´s Liverpool or Manchester United. If it is Manchester United, their chances of signing are very high and a lot of fans would be screaming for him to come.”

One big selling point about Ferguson is that he already possesses high levels of talent and ability at a very young age, which Parker points out.

“He is very young and you can really work with him. But if he were to come, we need to remember that they can’t just throw him in and tell him to score a lot of goals. They would have to be patient with him but he would be a very good signing.

“People say that Brighton isn’t going to sell him but they got him for a very small fee and everyone, including De Zerbi, knows that Brighton are going to sell him if the right offer arrives at the table.

“So, Evan Ferguson is the one I’m looking at if Man United aren’t going out to spend a crazy amount of money.

“Everyone is talking about Victor Osimhen but if Man United sign him for the fee that has been written in the media, people would expect him to score a lot of goals immediately and help Man United to win the league in the next season. I don’t want to put that pressure on him and that’s not the road Man United should go down right now.”
