Dean Henderson is set for a permanent move to Nottingham Forest as Manchester United identify Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa as a potential No. 1 for next season.

Much has been made of Manchester United‘s goalkeeping department in the last 12 months, with rumours flying left, right, and centre with respect to the futures of both Dean Henderson and David de Gea.

Henderson spent the last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he was granted their No. 1 position until an injury sustained two months ago cut his season short.

His move to the Midlands club on loan came as a bit of a shock, with the Englishman saying he felt like he had been lied to by the club and wanted to leave in order to get game time.

David de Gea, on the other hand, recently won the Premier League Golden Glove after being Erik ten Hag’s main man in goal – however, he was subject to intense criticism after being blamed for United’s 2-1 FA Cup final loss to Manchester City.

With United reportedly looking to secure a new goalkeeper this summer, it has emerged from Simon Jones of the Daily Mail that Nottingham Forest are looking to make Dean Henderson’s move stay at the club permanent.

It is claimed that both Henderson and Forest are preparing for his stay at the club to become permanent, with United therefore potentially raising funds for a new goalkeeper.

There have been multiple claims that United have held multiple discussions about the signing of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, with Portuguese outlet A Bola claiming that a deal is “well underway” for his transfer to United.

It was further claimed that United may decide to pay his release clause, which is just shy of £65 million.

De Gea is entering the final weeks of his current contract, with a new contract said to be signed imminently, according to ESPN.

Costa would therefore compete with De Gea for the Manchester United No. 1 spot, with Henderson out of the picture at a new Premier League club on a permanent basis.
