Manchester United are likely to receive at least £50 million for one of their players this summer as Rúben Amorim closes in on the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United are looking to make a number of early moves in the transfer market, with the club hoping to announce Matheus Cunha as their maiden summer signing before the window officially opens on 1 June.
Rúben Amorim is looking to add attacking and midfield players to his squad this summer who will raise the team’s physical floor and make them a much more competent side within his 3-4-3 formation. He is looking to add creative outlets out wide as well as a starting striker.
The club have been closely linked with several Premier League talents such as Liam Delap, Antoine Semenyo, with Amorim favouring those who already have experience in England’s top flight.
To fund these moves, United are thought to be open to letting almost any first-team player leave for the right price. However, premium players such as Amad, Alejandro Garnacho, or Bruno Fernandes would require hefty bids for the club to consider their sales.
European giant now in the driving seat for Garnacho
Garnacho has been told by head coach Amorim that he is free to find a new club this summer provided the fee is one that suits all parties involved. Clubs are already lining themselves up for the 20-year-old winger ahead of the summer window.
According to iSport, Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, is set to meet with United’s officials this week to reignite negotiations for the Argentina international after their interest in January was rebuffed.
United are said to want around £60 million for the player, but the iSport report claims those close to the deal feel an agreement could be struck for closer to £50 million.
Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the winger after enquiring about his situation in January. Still, Napoli are the side currently in the driving seat as they are much more advanced in their interest.
United closing in on Mbeumo transfer
With United wanting the Garnacho transfer to be handled swiftly, the club are now closing in on a potential for Brentford’s Mbeumo.
The stunning winger, who netted 20 Premier League goals last campaign, is available for £50 million, and United have reportedly already engaged in talks surrounding his signing.
The Cameroon international has one year left on his contract, and Amorim is known to be a big fan of the 25-year-old, who would join to compete with Amad on the right flank. At the same time, Cunha will become the club’s first choice on the left following Garnacho’s likely departure.
“I can definitely understand the interest in him,” Bees boss Thomas Frank said of Mbeumo following the final day of the season.
“There should be interest in him. He is at his best age, he has scored 20 goals. I would like to keep him, but we are a selling club so if someone comes in with the right price.”
