One of Erik ten Hag’s transfer targets for Manchester United has finally hinted that he is open to the move in the future.

The Dutch manager has signed 10 players since taking over at United, and six more have joined on loan deals over the two seasons.

However, there have been several failed deals over the last 18 months. Ten Hag admitted that he wanted to sign a striker in the latest January transfer market.

An additional no.9 has been a concern of Ten Hag since before the summer, even when Rasmus Højlund was signed.

Anthony Martial was the only other first-team player who played in the position and the Frenchman has been injured for most of the season.

Ten Hag wanted to bring striker Brian Brobbey to the club in the summer of 2022 from RB Leipzig. The young forward had worked under Ten Hag at Ajax previously.

However, Brobbey decided to return to Ajax instead. He has scored 21 goals this term despite the Dutch club’s difficult season.

Brobbey has now spoke about potential destinations for himself in the future in a Q&A with the new Dutch edition of Men’s Health magazine, and admitted he would be open to playing at Old Trafford.

When he was asked to name a foreign club he would like to play for, Brobbey responded: “Real Madrid is a great club, but so are Arsenal and Manchester United.”

Whether United are in for the 22-year-old this summer likely depends on INEOS’ decision about Ten Hag’s future at the club.

Speaking previously about United’s attempts to sign him, Brobbey explained: “Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary. But our decision was clear: we wanted to go to Ajax.

“Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause.”
