Erik ten Hag has provided the latest on Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

After a series of negative results, Manchester United held an in-form Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw at their own ground, with the teams sharing one Premier League point each.

With significant pressure mounting on Erik ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe in attendance, United played a safe and compact game, making sure they did not leak goals.

Players such as Jonny Evans and Diogo Dalot were particularly impressive against Villa’s fast and strong front line, with the former being handed the Player of the Match award at full-time.

Ten Hag will now enter the international break with a big question hanging over his head: will Ratcliffe and his INEOS leadership team decide to sack the Dutchman next week?

During the tie, both Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui were replaced by Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelöf for the second half, with Mgauire in particular heading off the field in extreme discomfort.

Ten Hag has now provided an update on Maguire, explaining that he felt not well so he felt the English defender had to come off.

“He didn’t feel well after half-time so I had to take him off,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports.

“We know in this moment we have a lack of goals, in that perspective it’s not a good start, we have to step up. That’s an area we have to improve. But we have four clean sheets. That’s good because we have to defend proper.”
