Erik ten Hag now looks set to potentially sign a new contract with Manchester United following INEOS’ decision to continue with him as manager.

Erik ten Hag will remain at Manchester United for the upcoming season after Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford decided to retain the Dutchman at Old Trafford.

Over the past six months, there has been considerable debate about whether Ten Hag is the right choice to lead United into the new INEOS-led era. However, after three weeks of deliberation following an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, United’s decision-makers concluded that keeping Ten Hag was the best course of action.

Despite exploring other potential candidates, including Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel, it became clear that these alternatives were not available. As a result, the decision to stick with Ten Hag was made.

Although official confirmation is pending, all major media outlets are reporting this development. The FA Cup final win, coupled with strong support from fans, played a significant role in the final decision.

Reports have also added that discussions will now take place regarding Ten Hag’s longer-term future at United, with a new contract now being discussed. His current deal is set to expire in June 2025, and the club has an option to extend this by another season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, talks between United and the Dutchman’s agents are already underway and advanced. All parties are now reportedly anticipating a final agreement on a new contract. Ten Hag is happy to sign another deal and continue the project.

The interesting part of this report comes when Romano claims that INEOS are now looking to give Ten Hag “total trust” in the club’s future as part of the contract report.

While the fact they had met with multiple other candidates for the position may have indicated that they did not completely trust Ten Hag, the decision to enter negotiations for a new contract is a clear sign that they see him as the best possible option going forward.

Erik ten Hag is set to return to Carrington for pre-season training towards the beginning of July. United will be facing Rosenborg in Norway and Rangers in Scotland before travelling to the United States of America to play Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool.

The Premier League is due to start on the weekend of 17/18 August, with the fixture list to be announced next Tuesday.
