Erik ten Hag is a big fan of title-winning defender who is set to leave this transfer window
Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong is moving towards leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
That’s according to top German newspaper Bild, who have revealed that the Dutch international is ready to leave Leverkusen.
Frimpong, 23, has played some of the best football of his career this season, excelling as a wing-back in Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Bundesliga-winning Bayer Leverkusen side.
Additionally, the same outlet reported last month that United had registered their interest in Frimpong directly with members of the player’s team.
UtdDistrict meanwhile understands that the club have been following Frimpong for some time, with both the recruitment team and Erik ten Hag seeing him as a massive talent.
However, as of the end of last month, UtdDistrict reported that Frimpong was not yet INEOS‘ priority target.
With 14 goals this season, the only members of the Manchester United squad to have scored more competitive goals than Frimpong this season are Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund (both 15).
But, if United are to pursue any interest in Frimpong, then they will need to act quickly – as the Dutch international’s £34 million release clause is only active from now, until the start of Euro 2024.
United will also need to fend off competition from rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, both of whom have been reportedly keeping tabs on the talented right-wing-back
This news comes just days after Fabrizio Romano revealed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is “one to watch” this summer. The United hierarchy is exploring the potential of selling the Englishman during the next transfer window.
According to that report, United are considering moving on Wan-Bissaka as he has just one season left on his current deal, something Frimpong’s teammate Jonathan Tah has in common with the full-back.
Several outlets have reported Tah, 28, as a target of United. Bild’s report confirms that the centre-back’s future is still up in the air.
As he enters the last year of his deal, the chances of him staying at the club are believed to be “very good,” though United and Bayern Munich are known to be interested in the defender.
