Anthony Martial has become a forgotten man at Manchester United after a series of injuries, with the player set to leave Old Trafford either in January or the summer transfer window.

Anthony Martial‘s place as Manchester United‘s No. 9 has disappeared under Erik ten Hag, with the Dutch manager preferring Rasmus Højlund to the former French international, despite the latter having yet to score a Premier League goal.

Ten Hag, speaking on Friday afternoon ahead of United’s trip to West Ham, was asked about Højlund’s struggles in front of goal, where the manager went on to explain that he feels the lack of goals is not just down to the young Dane, but also those around him.

“It is not all about Rasmus; it is about Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay. Don’t forget our full-backs who have to be a big part of that,” he said.

“He [Højlund] is open. His mentality is great. He is a very good performer with stress; he deals with that. If our squad is full, it is better in balance and we should create more chances.”

With this comment, Ten Hag completely omitted Anthony Martial, showing just how low down in the pecking order the once-raved-about striker is, with the striker gaining interest from Inter Milan.

This is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that the player is being “monitored” by the Serie A club.

The report further explains that United “want to get rid of him” in January, and Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio “has always liked his profile”, translated by Sport Witness.

Ten Hag leaving Martial out of his pre-match comments confirms that United want to get rid of him as soon as possible and with the January window opening in less than two weeks, this may be the end of the road for him at Old Trafford.
