“Really pleased…” – Erik ten Hag makes clear Man United lineup suggestion for 2024/25
Erik ten Hag has made a clear Manchester United lineup suggestion for next season after admitting he is ‘really pleased’ with one player.
The Reds won 3-2 against La Liga side Real Betis on Thursday with the team producing a solid performance in the game.
Amad Diallo won the penalty for the first goal, scored the second and played in the corner for the third. He was the best player on the pitch.
This follows on from impressive displays against Rangers and Arsenal as well as his impressive form at the backend of last season.
Ten Hag preferred Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and even Omari Forson over the Ivorian for much of the 2023/24 campaign but Amad has now forced his way into the conversation for a starting position on that right wing.
While his in-possession work is excellent, Ten Hag points out his work in the pressing system that has looked better during pre-season.
“Yes, he [Amad] is performing well and [he is having] a good pre-season so far. You could see absolutely he is making an uplift in his game,” the manager said.
“Also, in the defending part with the counter-press but also with the pressing, he is doing really well. So I am really pleased with his performance.”
Antony’s biggest attribute when he was starting last season was his defensive work.
With Ten Hag now praising Amad’s work on that side of the game, it seems nailed on that the 22-year-old will start the season at right wing for the Reds.
Speaking on the game against Betis as a whole, Ten Hag added: “I think it was okay, the lads did well. At the start we had some problems in getting control and we went 1-0 down which shouldn’t happen.
“I actually think this was the first time they entered our box. But then we took over and we bounced back, I think we made three really good goals, first the penalty and it was a good action from Amad.
“The second I would [also] say is a very good goal. The third one from the corner is also a nice goal. The second where Harry Amass put the cross [in], and Amad scored the goal with the finish was lovely.”
