Erik ten Hag might have delivered his worst-ever press conference answer following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday evening.

United were fortunate to come away with a point at the Gtech Community Stadium despite Mason Mount looking like he had scored the winning goal in the 96th minute.

It was another dismal display from Ten Hag’s side in a season that has been littered with many.

Last time out against Liverpool offered fans some hope, but that was stripped away once again on Saturday evening.

The Reds conceded 31 goals and allowed Brentford to have 85 touches in the United penalty box. Yes, you read that right. 85.

It was the ninth game in the last 11 where the opposition have managed over 20 shots at André Onana’s goal. The other two occasions came against Nottingham Forest (16) and Fulham (17).

This has become an absolute pressing issue for United, who are simply letting the opposition shoot at their goal way too often.

However, when Ten Hag was pressed about the issue, he dismissed it as long as United got results instead.

“As long as we get results, no,” he responded when asked if he is concerned about the amount of shots that United face.

“We lost many second balls and then you have to defend the box, that’s what we did quite well and we had a great goalkeeper… We concede shots but we don’t concede many goals.”

The response generated an expected frustrated reaction from many supporters, who all believe that it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

“Should be sacked by 9am tomorrow for saying stuff like this,” one fan wrote on social media platform X.

Another posted: “These statements after the games is making fans turn. That many shots simply isnt acceptable.”

“Personally, I’d want him gone for that comment alone, Don’t lie to the fans. They know they are not stupid,” a third concluded.
