“Do it…” Enzo Maresca addresses Jadon Sancho transfer, winger ‘wants’ Chelsea move
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has addressed the possibility of signing Jadon Sancho this summer amid claims the Manchester United winger wants the move.
Jadon Sancho, 24, missed the latter part of last season at Manchester United following a conflict with manager Erik ten Hag, who left him out of a squad for a match against Arsenal.
Sancho hasn’t featured for United in the Premier League since late August last year, with Ten Hag citing his poor training performances as the reason. Sancho publicly challenged these reasons, leading to his exclusion from the team and a six-month loan back to Borussia Dortmund.

After reconciling with Ten Hag during the preseason, Sancho resumed training with United’s first team. However, his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain as he has been linked with a move away.
Sancho was not part of the squads for United’s first two Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton. Recent reports on Wednesday suggested that United had agreed to a loan move to Juventus with an obligation to buy, although later reports contradicted this, stating that Juventus proposed a loan with an option to buy, and no deal has been finalized.
Further reports on Wednesday evening broke that Sancho had made a choice about his next club – he prefers a move to Chelsea over signing for Juventus.
There have been claims that Chelsea want to explore a potential swap deal that would see Sancho sign at Stamford Bridge while 29-year-old Raheem Sterling headed to Old Trafford and that sporting director Dan Ashworth had held talks.
Sterling has been frozen out of the Chelsea squad, with manager Enzo Maresca not keen on his style of football.
In a recent press conference, the Italian boss explained that although he thinks Sterling is a fantastic person, he has different ideas.
“I said already many times, he is a fantastic person,” Maresca said when quizzed about Sterling. “The only thing is that every manager has a different idea.
“He is not the type of winger I like. That says nothing about Raheem. The history and the numbers speak for Raheem.”
When asked about Chelsea’s transfer interest in Sancho, Maresca said: “If we can sign a player that can help us, for sure, I would do it. Jadon is not our player. I know him very well. But he is not our player.”
The transfer window closes in less than two days, at 11 p.m. on Friday, 30 August. United then plays Liverpool on Sunday, 2 September, at Old Trafford.
