Manchester United host Luton Town on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford in the last Premier League fixture before the latest international break.

The game follows on from a disappointing result in the Champions League as United lost 4-3 against Copenhagen. They sit bottom of their group and eighth in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s side simply must win this encounter ahead of a difficult schedule once league football resumes later this month.

In terms of team news, Jonny Evans is unavailable for the game after being forced off with an injury against Copenhagen.

The club confirmed on Friday evening that Evans would be out “for the next few weeks” as he recovers from injury.

Evans has started United’s last four Premier League fixtures. He was replaced by Raphaël Varane on Wednesday and the Frenchman is expected to return to the lineup against The Hatters.

Victor Lindelöf is another option, however, as the Swede returned to the squad midweek after a bout of illness kept him out of the Fulham game last weekend.

Marcus Rashford is also available for the clash despite receiving a red card against Copenhagen. That ban only applies to European games.

UEFA’s disciplinary body will be meeting before United’s next Champions League game against Galatasaray to determine whether Rashford’s ban will be one match or two and United cannot appeal the decision under UEFA rules.

On Rashford’s poor form, Ten Hag said: “He is not happy. We are not happy. He has high expectations from himself, at the moment he is not in his best form but I know he will be back.”

Young winger Amad Diallo is back in training for the Reds but is not yet fully fit. Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw are all out of action, with the aforementioned duo not expected back until after Christmas.

Kobbie Mainoo could be involved in some capacity on Saturday after playing 90 minutes for the under-19s on Wednesday afternoon in the 2-2 draw with Copenhagen at UEFA Youth League level.

His youth teammate, Omari Forson, was included in the United squad against Copenhagen’s senior team.

Opposition team news (Luton Town)

The visitors will likely be missing the trio of Mads Andersen, Reece Burke and Dan Potts. Whilst both Amari’i Bell and Albert Sambi Lokonga could be back in contention for the clash after being out with thigh injuries.

Two United academy graduates will be returning to Old Trafford. Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi both performed excellently last time out as Luton earned a shock point against Liverpool, with Chong scoring his side’s goal.
