Diogo Dalot reacts to Man United transfer update, with ideal kit number available for star
Diogo Dalot has reacted to the latest Manchester United transfer update as the club move closer to securing a signing.
The Reds are looking to secure deals for Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee following the Netherlands’ exit from Euro 2024 on Wednesday evening.
Zirkzee, 23, appears to be the more advanced transfer, but movement for De Ligt is also ongoing. Fabrizio Romano has provided a new update on the situation.
The Italian journalist has explained that a deal is getting closer, with talks progressing between the two clubs after De Ligt decided that he only wants a move to Old Trafford.
Eagle-eyed fans have interestingly spotted that Diogo Dalot has liked Romano’s post about De Ligt on Instagram.
The Portuguese defender is likely to link up with the Dutchman in the coming weeks, and like all new signings, there is a conversation about what shirt number they will wear.
For De Ligt, the perfect kit is available for him after Sofyan Amrabat’s departure from the club on loan. The Moroccon occupied the no.4 shirt number last season.
Since De Ligt emerged onto the scene at Ajax, he has worn the no.4 shirt for all of his clubs, and that appears to be the most likely outcome should he join the club.
Interestingly, this was the same shirt number that Raphaël Varane wanted to take when he joined the club in 2021.
However, it was then occupied by Phil Jones, who reportedly refused to give up the shirt for the Frenchman. Varane instead took the no.19 during his three-year period at Old Trafford.
