Manchester United announced on Tuesday morning that Mason Mount had rejoined first-team training following a four-month injury layoff.

In mid-November, Erik ten Hag revealed in a press conference that Mason Mount had suffered a calf injury and would be out of action for around four weeks, but it was not an injury that was expected to drag past the new year.

However, Mount has not appeared for United since a 1-0 win over Luton Town at Old Trafford on 11 November, as his injury rehabilitation suffered multiple setbacks.

However, on Tuesday morning, United released the first official photos and videos of Mount back in training with his fellow Reds, and multiple footballers have reacted to the news, including current Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

Reacting to his long-awaited comeback on Instagram, Mount posted two photo of himself looking thrilled to join his teammates at Carrington, captioning his post: “Happy to be back on the grass with the team!”

Although Mount is in training once again, he is not expected to be fit to face Liverpool in the FA Cup this weekend but is instead in line to make his first appearance back at the club against Brentford on 30 March.

“He has remained upbeat and positive throughout his rehabilitation,” the United website explained to fans on Tuesday. “A diligent professional, Mount has worked closely with the club’s medical staff and displayed a work ethic that helped him to become one of the most decorated young players in the game.

“The England international’s return to fitness will bring great energy to the squad and the former Champions League winner cannot wait to get started again.”
