Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that one of Manchester United’s targets, who has been labelled a “game-changer”, has made a firm decision regarding his future this summer.
Aside from the hopeful incomings of Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap, Manchester United are still scouring the market for attacking talent to add to Rúben Amorim’s squad this summer.
With United failing to score enough goals this campaign, the club are looking for players who are well-suited to Amorim’s front three of a central striker and two inside forwards.
With Cunha expected to become the new front-man on the left flank, United are looking to add reinforcements on the right-hand side, with Amad the only sure-fire first-team option in the position at the moment.
The club have been closely linked with Brentford star man Bryan Mbeumo or Bournemouth’s fantastic Antoine Semenyo this window, although the club also have other options on the list.
United also targeting RB Leipzig’s Simons
With the club wanting to sign new forwards, they have also been closely linked to 22-year-old Xavi Simons, who has 18 goal involvements across 32 appearances this season.
According to reports from Germany late last month, United have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Simons this summer.
United have the player on their radar amid Amorim needing fresh attacking reinforcements, although Bayern Munich are also keeping an eye on Simons if they fail to secure Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen amid a battle with Manchester City.
United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, flew to Germany last month to watch Simons and his club teammates Benajmin Šeško against Wolfsburg, where “game-changer” Simons starred, netting twice.
Romano confirms decision made on Simons future
Amid United’s interest in Simons, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the player has locked in his decision to leave Leipzig this summer.
The Dutch international is said to be ready for a new chapter in his career, with Premier League sides and Bayern all attentive to his situation.
Romano further clarified that the Bundesliga side are aware of his intention to leave, and other reports have stated that he has a £68 million transfer fee on his head should any club look to sign him.
With United already spending around £92.5 million on Cunha and Delap, should both transfers materialise, this fee may be a little out of reach for Amorim’s side.
But if they are able to offload Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony for a hopefully combined £100 million, United’s interest in Simons may advance.
