David de Gea equals Man United record in Leicester City victory
Manchester United’s loyal custodian David de Gea has added yet another feather to his cap after the Spaniard matched Peter Schmeichel’s clean sheet record for Manchester United.
On Sunday’s early kick-off Manchester United decimated Leicester City as they beat the Foxes 3-0 to cement their place in the top 3. Jadon Sancho scored his second goal since his return to the side after man-in-form Marcus Rashford continued his streak of scoring goals by hitting a brace, on the either side of the half.
However, United’s Spanish goalkeeper, a regular since the early 2010s, quietly equalled an all-time club record for a United goalkeeper. De Gea recorded his 180th clean sheet for the club, a record that was earlier flexed by only Peter Schmeichel.

In the win against Leicester, De Gea once again showed his true class as he made two brilliant saves to deny the Foxes a chance to put a dent in United’s defence.
Speaking after the fixture, Erik ten Hag was full of praise for David de Gea’s performance in the first half against Leicester, citing that it was due to his crucial saves that the club were able to go into half time with their 1-0 lead intact despite a poor showing in the opening 45 minutes.
“We didn’t follow the rules and the principles of the game from our way of play and then you get punished,” said Ten Hag. “We were lucky and it is only because of David de Gea that we don’t concede a goal. Great saves, we were not disciplined and it is not right.”
Ten Hag has also previously praised De Gea’s leadership qualities, naming him as one of three leaders within the dressing room.
“The experience that he (Casemiro) brings in the squad with Rapha [Varane] is huge, and David,” Ten Hag told MUTV ahead of last week’s tie against Barcelona. “So everyone can learn from it but also I think you feel more secure when you have them on your side.”

During his glorious career, the Spaniard has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League. With 521 appearances under his kitty, De Gea has already etched his name on the record books of Manchester United. He also stands at No. 10 in United’s players with the most appearances’ list.
Thanks to his clean sheet on Sunday, De Gea now has 140 clean sheets in English top flight football. He also recorded his 10th clean sheet of the season. However, with his contract expiring at the end of this season, his future at Old Trafford is becoming doubtful.
