Erik ten Hag keeps promise to Roy Keane ahead of Carabao Cup final
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag showed that he is the man of his words after fulfilling former United captain Roy Keane’s promise.
The Dutchman kept his promise as he sends United legend Roy Keane some tickets for the upcoming Carabao Cup final, as requested by the Irishman during Manchester United‘s hammering over Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
Keane, once a no-nonsense midfielder in United’s ranks, sarcastically asked Ten Hag for some tickets to Wembley to be in attendance when United taken on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final. Fans from every nook and corner of the world will be glued into the match while United will fancy their chances of winning their first trophy since 2017.
During the on-pitch interview, Keane asked the United boss: “And if you’ve got any spare tickets for the final, you’d let me know, just two complimentary if that’s okay?”
To which the 53-year-old said: “Yes I think so Roy, no problem.” Keane further elaborated by saying that he wishes for a “complimentary” ticket: “Complimentary though, I’m not paying.”
According to a report published by the Sun, the former United midfield general has received his fair share of tickets for the eagerly anticipated Cup final.
A source informed the Sun that: “The manager promised Roy some tickets and has made sure he will get them. No one at the club has more than a couple to give to family and friends so it is a lovely gesture by Erik.”
“He respects Roy for his incredible playing career and isn’t fazed by the directness of his punditry.”
In the past, Roy Keane has never shied away from slamming the current players on live television if they hadn’t performed well. The midfielder has repeatedly slandered the likes of David de Gea, Luke Shaw, Fred, among others.
As a breath of fresh air, United has received a major boost as Newcastle United’s top choice goalkeeper Nick Pope will sit out the final after receiving a straight red card during their match against Liverpool in the Premier League.
To make things worse for the Magpies, Martin Dubravka, Eddie Howe’s second choice goalkeeper is ineligible to play in the final as he has already played in the Cup, for the Reds during his loan spell. As things stand, former Liverpool goalie Loris Karius is set to stand in between the sticks.
