Dan Ashworth began work at Manchester United this week and is already planning for several summer exits.

United finally reached an agreement with Newcastle over the compensation terms for the sporting director, who the club announced earlier this week.

“Newcastle United and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the immediate release of Dan Ashworth from his contractual obligations at Newcastle United,” a joint statement read.

“The terms of this agreement remain confidential between the clubs. Newcastle United thanks Dan for his services and wishes him well for the future.”

The 53-year-old has already started work at Old Trafford and is planning several summer exits to help United in their efforts to sign the best possible players.

It is not a secret that the Reds are walking a financial tightrope and need sales to have a successful summer. Various players have been linked with moves away, and Ashworth isn’t wasting any time in identifying those who need to depart.

A report from The Mirror explains that seven players are set to face the chopping block. The list includes Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Mason Greenwood.

It was stated that Ashworth and United’s dream scenario is to sell all of those players and raise around £200 million in fees. This would allow them to spend a total of around £250 million on transfers.

The Reds are closing in on an agreement for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt and are also preparing to trigger the release clause in Joshua Zirkzee’s contract at Bologna.

However, they will need to start making progress in terms of sales so that they can attack the window as soon as possible rather than working in the final days due to a poor sales process.
