“Crazy proposal…” – Fabrizio Romano provides full details of Manchester United’s next ‘perfect’ transfer plan

Fabrizio Romano has provided the full details of one of Manchester United’s ‘perfect’ transfer plans in the next year.

Manchester United have endured a tough start to the new season, with much of their struggle stemming from a lack of structure in midfield.

Despite a strong summer transfer window, which saw the arrivals of Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo, the club failed to properly address the central areas.

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro remain the first-choice midfielders, supported by Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, but it’s clear that further reinforcements are needed.

United are aiming to improve in that position next year and Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest details of a potentially ‘perfect’ transfer plan.

United attempted to sign Carlos Baleba in the latter stages of the summer transfer window but were unable to convince Brighton to entertain any negotiations.

Romano has detailed how Baleba, who has started the new season poorly, remains a transfer target at Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim of the belief that he would be a ‘perfect’ signing.

The Italian journalist also noted how Brighton do not want to see Baleba in the January window and it would be have to be a ‘crazy proposal’ from United to make the move happen in that window.

“Carlos Baleba was a target for Manchester United,” he said on his YouTube channel. “There were very positive exchanges between, Baleba, his agent and Manchester United. He wanted the move, but he didn’t want to force the move. He respected Brighton, he didn’t ask to go, so it was in Brighton’s hands.

“At the moment, Brighton insist on their position not to sell the player in the January transfer window. For that to happen, it would have to be a crazy proposal or if the player asked to go. Even in that case, they don’t want to sell him. It is going to be difficult.

“In the summer, it might be different. Amorim pushed a lot for Baleba in the summer transfer window, he saw him as a perfect target for Man United, in terms of intensity, skills, potential and knowledge of the Premier League. He was considered a perfect signing by people at the club and by the manager.

“It remains a difficult deal for January, for the summer we will see what will happen. Manchester United are looking for an important midfielder in 2026.”

United must deal with this season first

Even though he is not in great form, Baleba will likely have plenty of suitors next summer and United will not have an easy time securing the transfer.

They did do some leg work during the summer and it seems like the player would be keen on a move to Old Trafford and that could give them an advantage.

But in the meantime, Amorim and his team need to focus on the current season and how to succeed with their current options.

The midfield is not ideal at Old Trafford but there are good enough players to see the team grow and improve as the season moves on and that is what many fans are expecting.
