Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a recent rumour regarding one Manchester United star which will give Ruben Amorim a big headache.
Ruben Amorim is looking to revitalise the Manchester United squad following a record-low finish for the club in the Premier League.
The club is looking to bring in several attacking players with Matheus Cunha certain to join while Liam Delap and Bryan Mbuemo are also being heavily linked.
In order to finance these transfers, the club is looking to sell some of the out-of-favour players. This has become even more necessary following United’s defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final as it meant the club missed out on Champions League qualification and the money which comes with it.
Some players that are looking likely to be moved on are those that were loaned out last season and aren’t seen as part of the United project under Amorim. This includes Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia, who were loaned out to Aston Villa and PSV respectively.
Chelsea not keeping Sancho
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Europa Conference League final between Real Betis and Chelsea could have been the last game Jadon Sancho played for the London side.
Sancho scored in the final as Enzo Maresca’s side won 4-1 but his future is far from solved, with rumours around the Blues activating the clause which allows them to send Sancho back to Old Trafford – Romano now claims that it is a “concrete possibility”.
The Italian journalist has told fans of both clubs to “keep an eye on the situation of Jadon Sancho, because at the moment doesn’t have any sort of guarantee on the situation at Chelsea”.
Chelsea currently have the option of signing the winger for a figure between £20 and £25 million or paying £5 million to send him back to United.
At this moment in time, it would appear that no one knows Sancho’s future for certain. Romano said that Sancho has not been told of Chelsea’s decision and Maresca said at his most recent press conference that no decision had been made.
What happens if Sancho comes back?
If Chelsea decide against signing Sancho then it will cause Amorim another headache. Sancho has completed back-to-back loan spells with Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea following a public fallout with Erik Ten Hag.
Reports earlier in the season indicated that Sancho may wish to stay at the club if Ten Hag left the club. This has since happened so there is a possibility that during pre-season he may have a better relationship with Amorim and could revitalize his career.
However, some of Sancho’s social media posts have led to a divide between him and the fans and that may be too big a problem to overcome.
The plan then would ideally be to sell Sancho on to a new suitor but given the embarrassment of Chelsea paying £5 million not to sign him that may be difficult. If the club could find a club who would be willing to take him for more than £20 million then the situation might see more money come in for United than if he had gone straight to Chelsea.
The worst-case scenario would be if the club can’t find a bidder for the appropriate amount and is forced to loan him out again as it doesn’t get him off the books and doesn’t generate any revenue for the club. Now that Chelsea have completed their Conference League final, their attention will turn fully to the transfer market so it’s likely that more news about Sancho will soon transpire.
