The upcoming summer transfer window is going to be crucial for Manchester United as they look to support Ruben Amorim with new signings.

Ruben Amorim has had an extremely difficult time since being appointed Manchester United head coach and will be hoping that the end of the season comes soon.

At that point, the Portuguese boss will be able to conduct a full pre-season with his squad and also be hoping to get more signings.

New additions are important, but it is also crucial to see players leave the club as well and there are several players who are struggling to make a case to stay next season.

Vivell identifies Maignan Onana replacement at United

Many United fans are getting frustrated by the consistent mistakes made by André Onana between the sticks, with some labelling it as “indefensible” at this point.

In recent months, the Cameroon shot-stopper has made several high-profile errors which have led to questions about his long-term future with the club.

According to Italian outlet Milan Live, United’s new head of recruitment Christopher Vivell is ready to pursue Mike Maignan this summer as a replacement for Onana.

It was explained that United have been tipped to launch a big-money “assault” to try and convince the AC Milan goalkeeper of a move to the Premier League.

The report added that Vivell, who recently made his role at Old Trafford permanent, sees Maignan as the solution to United’s problems between the sticks.

Amorim wants to sell Onana

This follows on from a report from the Manchester Evening News which explained that Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.

However, the main sticking point in this situation is Onana’s preference – which is to remain at Old Trafford and prove himself.

Onana still has just over three years remaining on his contract at United and the club would not be able to make a first-choice goalkeeper signing without selling the 28-year-old.

United also have several other positions that they need to strengthen and so it is unlikely that they waste too much time focusing on the goalkeeper situation.
