Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior gives final verdict on Cole Palmer links to Manchester United

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has given his final verdict on Cole Palmer’s recent links to Manchester United, claiming that the recent reports are ‘unrealistic’.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, which never came to fruition.

Fernandes opted to stay put at United despite being offered a lucrative salary, although an exit could still be on the cards for the Portuguese midfielder.

With this being a possibility, Michael Carrick’s side have been linked with a speculative move for Cole Palmer from Premier League rivals Chelsea, due to rumours of him being a fan of the Reds as a child.

Following this rumour doing the rounds in recent weeks, new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has decided to give his final verdict regarding the ‘unrealistic’ reports.

Rosenior makes Palmer decision

With Palmer enduring his most difficult spell so far in his time in West London, doubts regarding his happiness have emerged, and fans of United have grown hopeful of a potential move.

As reported by ESPN, Rosenior spoke on the links regarding his star player and said, “There’s no reason for assurance, it’s so unrealistic. It’s come from nowhere. There’s nothing in it. There’s no reason to have the conversation. That’s where I’m at.

“Cole is very happy. I’ve had numerous conversations with him. Our thoughts are on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him.

“He loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player. You can’t stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth. There’s no point in having a discussion about it.”

Is Fernandes replaceable?

Although the talents of Palmer are undeniable, and he is easily one of, if not the most exciting attacking midfielders in Europe, it can be questioned whether he would even be a suitable Fernandes replacement.

The last year has highlighted the Portuguese midfielder’s importance to the Reds in all aspects, despite United not being at their best.

Fernandes has showcased not just his ability, but his versatility, as he has often covered all possible roles across United’s midfield to an impressive standard.

With a move for Palmer seemingly off the table, United will need to assess other options if they need a replacement for their captain in the summer, although hopefully, the 31-year-old stays put.
