Manchester United face up against Fulham in an all-important Premier League clash following back-to-back 3-0 defeats against Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag is facing pressure after a poor start to his second season in charge at Old Trafford and needs three points from the visit to Craven Cottage.

United sit in eighth position in the Premier League after 10 games. They have two league fixtures before the next international break – this clash, and a game against newly promoted Luton Town – with both being must-wins.

There have been several injury updates ahead of the game, including positive and negative news, which will be detailed below.

Firstly, a major blow to Ten Hag will be the ‘several week’ absence of Casemiro, who was replaced at half-time against Newcastle. He has a hamstring issue that looks like it will mean he’s out until after the next international break.

His United and former Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane missed out on the last game through illness, according to Ten Hag, although some reports have suggested that the Frenchman was unhappy about being dropped to the bench in the Manchester derby the weekend before.

Varane is available for the clash and will travel to the capital for the game. However, Ten Hag has revealed that Victor Lindelof is currently ill and he has since not been seen with the travelling squad.

Ten Hag said: “Varane is ready to play, he will travel with the squad. Victor Lindelof has some illness and we’ll have to see if he’s ready for tomorrow.”

Kobbie Mainoo started and completed a game for the under-21s side earlier this week against League Two side Salford City. He assisted twice during the 4-3 defeat, where Salford scored two last-minute penalties.

With Casemiro ruled out, and now with some match fitness under his belt, the teenager has been included in the squad to face Fulham, and could even start the game, depending on the trust offered by Ten Hag.

Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia remain out of action for the clash, however, there have been positive updates on the progress of Shaw’s recovery.

Social media account Insider United – who had previously deactivated his account on X after leaking injury news that led to suspicions at United that the individual was connected to the club and had access to confidential information – has stated that the left-back is expected back ‘within the next couple of weeks’, with his rehab going ‘really well’.

That could mean that Shaw is back available for after the upcoming international break.

Martinez, instead, is focusing on being patient after a setback in his metatarsal issue. “I am in the process of recovery,” he told TNT Sports. “It is the second time that an injury like this has happened to me. So, you have to be patient.”
