Bruno Fernandes has sent a warning to his Manchester United teammates following the team’s ‘frustrating’ 4-3 defeat against Chelsea on Thursday evening.

The Reds collapsed at Stamford Bridge, throwing away three points and coming away with none after Cole Palmer scored twice in the final 60 seconds of the game.

It was a disastrous end to the game for Erik ten Hag and his team, who now have no chance of securing Champions League qualification for next season.

Bruno Fernandes delivered an honest assessment after full-time when speaking to TNT Sports. The United captain claimed that his side ‘gave away’ the match in those final moments when Chelsea’s best player Palmer had acres of space on the edge of the box.

“We had the game in our hands and we gave it away,” Fernandes said.

“It’s frustrating. It’s difficult to take. We had good control in the last few minutes. But they got two chances and scored two goals.

“From the corner we have to be much quicker. We knew beforehand they take corners and throw-ins quickly.

“In the last games we’ve conceded too many shots. It’s about defending your box.”

United now turn their attention to Liverpool, who travel to Old Trafford on the weekend, this time in the Premier League.

The last clash between the sides in the FA Cup saw United win 4-3 in dramatic fashion, but there will be bigger problems in the league game it seems.

However, Fernandes has warned his United teammates that they should need no motivation ahead of that game, with the captain desperate for the team to bounce back.

He added: “It’s a big game [on Sunday against Liverpool]. I don’t need to say anything [to his team-mates]. If I need to say anything it’s a problem because this is a massive club.”
