“Bring us…” Bruno Fernandes issues Rúben Amorim mission statement following Man United appointment
Bruno Fernandes has issued a mission statement to Rúben Amorim following his appointment as Manchester United’s head coach.
A few weeks ago, Manchester United confirmed Rúben Amorim as their new Head Coach following the departure of Erik ten Hag.
Despite ten Hag being given a contract extension in the summer, United’s poor performances left them in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, leading to his dismissal two weeks ago. The club acted swiftly to bring in Amorim as his successor.
During the interim period, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in, overseeing four matches with three wins and one draw to “stabilise the ship.”
Amorim arrived in England on Monday, 11 November, to officially begin his role. His first match in charge will be on 24 November, away at Ipswich Town.
Amorim’s path to success
Speaking to club media, Bruno Fernandes has explained that he hopes Amorim can bring the same success to United that he brought to Sporting.
When he joined in March 2020, the Liga Portugal side was in tatters, but the Portuguese coach galvanised the club and brought them their first league title in 20 years, establishing them as one of the best sides in the country.
“I hope he does the same here because, you know, sometimes a person can change the energy of a space if it’s the right moment,” Fernandes said.
“We hope that he can come, and this is the right moment for him to come and bring his energy, bring his qualities and his knowledge of football, because he’s done something really, really special at Sporting. If someone doubts that, it’s about just looking at the past.
“Sporting was to be about 20 years without winning the league, and he got back to win the league, and he won it two times in four years with a really youthful team, in a moment of change.
“So hopefully he can do the same here for us and [hopefully] it’s going to be a successful time for all of us.”
Bruno’s mission statement for Amorim
Further, Fernandes issued a mission statement for Amorim, explaining that Amorim must look to bring the club success through his more general tactical football knowledge and develop a new style that suits the players already at United.
“He’s a really smart manager that has done really good things for Sporting tactically – it’s really good, what I’ve seen from the games for Sporting,” he added.
“But obviously as we always speak, you can’t bring or transform what he has done at Sporting into here, because you have different players, you have different ways of play and everything.
“I’m pretty sure that the idea of football he has, independent of the way he wants to play, is going to be a good one and it’s going to bring us success.
“That’s what I hope and I’m pretty sure that [is what] he hopes too.”
