Borussia Dortmund produce Jadon Sancho transfer U-Turn but are awaiting key decision
Borussia Dortmund have produced a U-Turn in terms of their approach to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer.
Sancho, 24, moved back to Dortmund on loan in the January transfer window after a fallout with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.
The winger had not played since August and needed to move away to get game time after refusing to apologise to his manager.
Sancho started in the 2024 Champions League final for the German club, and despite the 2-0 loss against Real Madrid, it seems clear that the player would like to stay with the Bundesliga side.
That would also suit United, who seem open to letting the £73 million winger leave the club, yet it has been made clear in recent weeks that Dortmund would only be considering another loan deal for the 24-year-old.
Of course, United would prefer a permanent move, and Christian Falk’s latest reports explain that this could still materialise with Dortmund.
The German reporter, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, explained that Jadon Sancho remains Dortmund’s top transfer priority this summer.
He stated that Sancho’s future at Dortmund will hinge on his salary demands. The German club can cover a transfer fee for him but are unable to match the wages he currently receives at Old Trafford.
United have paid a significant portion of Sancho’s salary whilst on loan at Dortmund, with the report adding that he earns around £8.6 million net per year.
This is an amount that Dortmund are unable to afford and so it seems that the decision lays in Sancho’s hands. The winger has continuously explained his love for Dortmund, and if he wants to stay, a wage cut would make a move possible.
Previous reports have placed a transfer fee for Jadon Sancho at around the £40-50 million mark.
