Fabrizio Romano has disclosed that Manchester United have made advancements in the transfer market in a bid to bolster their attack this summer.
Manchester United have struggled massively in the scoring department this season, relying heavily on goals from midfield as the striker goal return has been nothing short of lacklustre.
Rasmus Hojlund has found the back of the net once in his last 27 games for the Reds while summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has also had his woes in front of goal.
Bruno Fernandes is the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League and the Portuguese captain has only netted eight times.
Ruben Amorim needs an improved strike-force next season to help see improvements at Old Trafford and that is exactly what the club are planning to give him.
United eyeing up Liam Delap deal
Liam Delap is believed to be a top target for United, with Chelsea also in the mix for the 21-year-old forward who has stood out in the Premier League this term.
United have placed the England youth international among the key forward options to bolster their attack.
While a move for Wolves’ Matheus Cunha is currently progressing, United’s interest in Delap remains strong, particularly given his £30m release clause, which has drawn interest from Old Trafford.
Despite joining Ipswich Town on a five-year contract last year, Delap is set to leave as the team faces relegation from the Premier League.
On the Market Madness podcast, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United and Chelsea are both targeting Delap this summer, viewing his £30m release clause as a ‘big opportunity’.
“Yeah, both of them [Man United and Chelsea] are trying. Both of them are interested,” the Italian journalist explained. “So for sure, the player is doing fantastic, and so Man United and Chelsea are very attentive to the situation.
“From what I heard, they have already made contact with the agents of the player to be informed on this relegation clause, £30 million. It’s a big opportunity.”
Delap’s season so far
Delap, hailed as ‘unplayable’, has had a standout debut season at Portman Road, netting 12 goals and providing two assists in 32 Premier League matches.
He is believed to be willing to join United even if they miss out on European competition next year, though they may still earn a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League.

Delap spent four years at the Manchester City academy before his permanent move last summer and has a good relationship with United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, from their time together at the club.
It is understood, however, that United also have set their sights on alternative strikers. Victor Osimhen playing in Turkey with Galatasaray is on loan from Napoli. The Nigerian striker is rumoured to be eager to join United.
