“Best in the business…” – MUTV pundit offers huge praise to Man Utd star for moment vs Spurs
Several Manchester United players stood out despite Manchester United’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.
Manchester United suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, ending their Carabao Cup campaign.
Despite dominating much of the match, Ruben Amorim’s side were undone by several defensive mistakes, leaving them 3-0 down shortly after the break.
The Reds showed tremendous resilience, narrowing the deficit to 3-2 with goals from substitutes Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo.
An equaliser seemed inevitable until a bizarre late goal from Son Heung-min, scored directly from a corner, sailed over Altay Bayındır.
Jonny Evans added a third for United in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to secure progression. Nevertheless, there were encouraging signs to take from the performance.
MUTV pundit praises Amad for pressing
Amad’s impact on the game in a short amount of time was extremely promising as he grabbed a goal and an assists.
The Ivorian now has 10 goal contributions in his last 10 appearances, with three of those appearances coming from the bench.
His goal on Thursday evening was a great example of his pressing. Amad has scored or assisted several goals now through his relentless off-ball work.
MUTV pundit and former player Ben Thornley was ecstatic about the performance of the 22-year-old and suggested the Amad is ‘the best in the business’ when it comes to pressing and winning the ball.
“Amad, at the moment, is just about the best in the business at sort of closing players down and whipping it off their toes,” Thornley said.
“Nothing was optimised more than the goal that he scored. The fact that he sprints and just doesn’t allow Fraiser Foster any time and before he blinks it’s in the back of the net.”
Amad is undroppable under Amorim
Amad started this game on the bench but Antony was unable to make any real impact as his replacement.
Despite Amorim’s insistence on rotation due to the physical levels of this squad, he’s going to start finding it more and more difficult to leave Amad out of the team.

Whether it is as the no.10 or at right wingback, Amad has shown that he will have a positive impact on the game no matter what.
Of course, you want to avoid any injuries and certain games he will need rest, but Amad now looks like an undroppable in Amorim’s strongest team.
The most exciting thing is that there are clearly still levels to go up in the Ivorian’s game, and that could come under Amorim.
