Manchester United have received a potential boost in the pursuit of a striker they have had their eyes on for a number of seasons, as they look to add some more goals to the team ahead of next year.
United have struggled to put the ball in the back of the net, and while Ruben Amorim attributes the issues to the entire team as opposed to one individual player, the club are still looking to add some firepower to the squad next season.
Many players have been linked in recent weeks, including Victor Osimhen and Victor Gyökeres, but there is one player United have been following for a number of years who would perhaps entice them more than anyone else.
In the past, United missed out on the player before he became the highly sought-after striker he is today, and if the chance presents itself to sign him this summer, it’s something they may not risk missing out on again.
United receive Sesko boost
Manchester United have received a possible boost in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, with the player now reportedly preferring a move to the Premier League above anywhere else. Sesko is anticipated to leave RB Leipzig this summer, and the Reds have been chasing him since before he joined RB Salzburg.
Sesko is wanted by a number of clubs, with Arsenal in particular having been linked heavily to the 21-year-old. BILD are reporting that the player wants a move to the Premier League, which will put clubs like Arsenal and United on extreme high alert.
Amorim is keen to add to his forward line when the window opens, with Rasmus Højlund also being linked with a move away from the club, although there has been nothing concrete to suggest he will as of yet.
United reportedly enquired about Sesko last summer before signing Højlund and have missed out on his signature in the past when he played for Domzale in Slovenia.
The Reds will have to be wary after Arsenal named a new sporting director in the shape of Andrea Berta, who will no doubt be hopeful to land a statement signing this summer to mark his first window in charge of the transfers at the club.
Sesko is a risk worth taking
Sesko’s age would be a concern for United, but his undoubted talent would not. The Slovenian has everything a club would want a modern striker to have, and his ball striking, above all else, is reason alone to risk all and sign him.
Højlund and Sesko could work well together if the Dane stayed, although the smarter option would be to have one of them at the club and sign a more experienced player for them to learn and grow off.
United’s question in the summer will have to be whether they believe Hojlund has higher potential than Sesko and, more importantly, whether that potential can be realized at Old Trafford.
It will be a tough call to make for the club when the time comes, but after a rotten season this year for fans and players, it’s one they will have to get right.
