AS Roma have been joined in the race for one of Rúben Amorim’s exiled players as Manchester United looks to sell the remaining four players.
Rúben Amorim exiled five Manchester United players at the beginning of the summer transfer window, as he looked to start his rebuild with the players and characters he wants, rather than those who he deemed not good enough or had a negative effect on the dressing room.
With just over a week until the end of the transfer window, only Marcus Rashford has left the club from the original five that needed to leave, but Rasmus Hojlund has also been added to the list of players that need to move on from Old Trafford.
The Danish centre forward appears to have no place in the first-team squad after the Benjamin Šeško signing, with Joshua Zirkzee set to be the backup, and Chido Obi will be fighting for a spot in Amorim’s squad.
Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho will all struggle to find a place in the team if they can’t find a suitable move away from Old Trafford, with the new additions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo taking up the attacking midfield spots.
Both Antony and Sancho have been considered for the right-wing-back role behind Amad, but Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui would be ahead of them in the pecking order as well.
Porto join the race for Malacia
Tyrell Malacia spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven after he returned from a long spell on the sidelines with multiple knee injuries. The Dutchman featured for Amorim before his move to the Netherlands.
However, he looks destined for a move away from Old Trafford this summer and could’ve joined Sancho at Roma, but the Englishman has turned down the move to the Italian Giants.
Roma remain interested in Malacia, but FC Porto have also eyed up the 26-year-old, reports The Athletic in their transfer roundup.
It is understood that United want to sell Malacia permanently, but would consider a loan move should an official offer arise. A loan deal could be the only way the left-back leaves the club this summer.
This comes months after PSV rejected the chance to sign the “excellent” Malacia for £8.5 million, with Roma and Porto being the first two clubs to consider the Dutchman since he returned to Old Trafford.
Malacia decision shows Leon’s promise
With Malacia destined for a move away from Old Trafford, that leaves just Patrick Dorgu, Diego Leon and Harry Amass at the club as natural left-wing-backs.
Amass appears to be going on loan for the 2025/26 season, with several clubs in the Championship interested in the former Watford youth player, leaving just Dorgu and Leon.
Despite only arriving this summer, Leon already appears to be ahead of Amass in the pecking order and looks set to play backup for Dorgu for the season.
The young Paraguayan impressed in pre-season, and he will almost certainly be given his debut soon, having been included in the first-team squad for the Arsenal game.
