Arne Slot has explained that one Liverpool star could miss their visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United next weekend.

United have started the new Premier League campaign with mixed results – winning against Fulham but losing in the last minute against Brighton.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s new boss, Arne Slot, has gotten off to a good start at Anfield, winning his opening two games of the season.

Next up comes a clash between the two sides on Sunday, with a victory being essential for Erik ten Hag’s side before the first international break of the season.

While United have been without several key players due to injury, Liverpool could also be without an important player this weekend.

Curtis Jones suffered a muscular injury during Liverpool training last week, which left him unavailable for the clash against Brentford.

When discussing the issue, Slot admitted that while not too serious, it will be close to whether he is fit enough for the trip to Old Trafford.

“It’s going to be close,” Slot said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “It’s always difficult to see how an injury evolves during the upcoming week.

“He won’t be out for a long time but it will be close for him to be here next week. But I’m quite sure he will try to do everything to be ready for next week. It’s not a big injury.”

Meanwhile, United will be without Rasmus Højlund and Leny Yoro, who both suffered injuries against Arsenal in pre-season. Victor Lindelöf, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are also unavailable.

Mason Mount was also substituted at half-time against Brighton due to a potential injury issue. Ten Hag will provide the latest on the midfielder later this week in his pre-match press conference.
