Antony provides update on assault investigation after receiving message from Man United icon
Antony has provided an update on the assault investigation against him after Manchester United’s 4-3 win over Liverpool on Sunday.
The Brazilian winger helped turn the game around for United with an impact goal off the bench to equalise in the last few minutes of the game.
Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo would then score extra-time goals to send the Reds into the semi-final of the FA Cup, where they will face Coventry City.
Antony’s equaliser was much needed for both himself and the team. He has had a poor season, with his only goal beforehand coming against League Two side Newport County.
Off the pitch, he has been dealing with domestic assault charges against him from a former partner. He missed several games back in September to travel to Brazil to deal with these charges.
The investigation is ongoing. Antony has denied all charges and has urged to prove his innocence on multiple occasions.
Erik ten Hag previously suggested that the off-field distractions had impacted Antony’s on-field performances.
When asked by TNT Sports Brazil about the latest update he has on the investigations, Antony responded:
“Regarding the investigation, it’s still in the hands of the lawyers, they’re dealing with it. But regarding that, my head is calm because I know the truth, I know my truth too.
“And soon all of this will come out. So, regarding that, I’m very calm and I’ll keep working so I can score more goals and connect with the fans.”
Following full-time on Sunday, Antony received a supportive message from former teammate and United icon David de Gea.
The goalkeeper, who is still without a club after his Old Trafford summer exit, replied to Antony’s post: “You deserve a lot brother.”
