A second player on Manchester United’s books has been tipped to potentially end up in Saudi Arabia following rumours about goalkeeper André Onana’s future.
Manchester United are set to undergo a major squad overhaul this summer as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s rebuild by offloading several players.
With the Portuguese manager expected to bring a clear tactical identity and high-intensity style, many within the current squad are unlikely to fit into his plans.
A number of exits are already anticipated. Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both out of contract at the end of the season and will depart on free transfers.
The club also intend to sell players currently out on loan, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. None of the trio are expected to be part of Amorim’s vision moving forward, and United will look to recoup significant fees from their sales.
Casemiro is another senior player expected to leave, as United aim to lower the average age of the squad and create room for new arrivals more suited to Amorim’s system. With a clear strategy to reshape the team, this summer is shaping up to be one of the most transformative in recent memory at Old Trafford.
Onana rumoured to be moving to Saudi Arabia
Rather bombshell reports dropped last week that claimed United goalkeeper André Onana could be on the move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
With Amorim reportedly keen on signing a new goalkeeper in the summer market, it emerged that Onana is set to move to the Middle East at the end of this season, with United looking to change their first-choice shot-stopper.
The report claimed that United have been tracking both Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens and Lille goalkeeping sensation Lucas Chevalier, although both players top the list for Manchester City this summer, too.
However, other reports have also stated that Onana is relaxed about his future and is confident that he will remain at Old Trafford once the 2025/26 campaign is underway.
Rashford warned he may end up with Onana
Amid the news that Onana may be moved on, Marcus Rashford has also been warned he may be sent on a plane to Saudi Arabia if he does not pick up his form while on loan at Aston Villa.
After signing for the Birmingham club on a temorary basis in January, Villa have an option to sign the player for £40 million in the summer.
Despite registering four assists, Rashford has been warned by former Premier League midfielder Andy Townsend that he must score more goals to avoid heading to the Saudi Pro League.
“I’ve enjoyed what Marcus Rashford has done in flashes since he’s been at Villa,” Townsend told OLBG. “We’ve certainly seen a more determined Marcus Rashford in a Villa shirt than we saw in the United one recently.
“For £40 million, I’d be very tempted to do that deal. Because I think that’s in today’s standards that’s a cheap player and we know potentially what he can do.
“He’s still got to produce more in terms of goals in a Villa shirt. But again I hope he assesses and reevaluates exactly where he is in his life and in his career now, he needs to produce it now.
“Otherwise he’s going to fizzle out and he’s just going to disappear and go end up in Saudi. Listen, he might want to do that and good luck with him, but if he wants to do it at Villa, he’s got a manager that’s going to demand a bit more. But I do think he’s capable of finding it. For £40 million, I would do it.”
