Altay Bayındır has broken his silence on conversations with Erik ten Hag about his Manchester United playing time following reports that the manager ‘ignored’ him.

Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır has had a tough spell at Old Trafford, with minimal chances behind first-choice option André Onana.

A report earlier this month from Football Insider claimed that Bayındır did not speak to Ten Hag in the first two weeks of his United career.

After signing in the summer of 2023, the report said that the shot-stopper spent time only with the club’s goalkeeping coaches, without ever having a conversation with the manager.

Bayındır only made one appearance during that entire campaign and has played just once so far this season as well.

Bayındır speaks on Fenerbache return and Ten Hag conversation

United travel away in the Europa League this week to face his former club Fenerbache and he has spoken on returning to the Turkish club.

The goalkeeper has spoken positively about his experiences at Fenerbache and also revealed that he has spoken to Ten Hag about his playing time at Old Trafford.

“I was happy when I was paired with Fenerbache [in the Europa League],” he said as per Manchester World

“Only one match is played, either at home or away. It seems strange to me to call this an away game. Actually, it doesn’t seem like an away game to me. I will just be in a different dressing room. I left Fenerbahçe in a good way. Our fans will welcome me in a good way.

“I had a conversation with manager Erik ten Hag about not playing for Manchester United. I always respect the manager’s decision, but I will do everything to play. I’m just focusing on the pitch.”

It seems unlikely that Bayındır plays the game against his ex-club. André Onana has started the opening two Europa League clashes this term, while Bayındır’s appearance came in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley.

Should his game-time in the cup competitions not increase this season, Bayındır could begin looking to move elsewhere in January or at the end of the season.
