Manchester United legend Louis Saha was left “speechless” by Alejandro Garnacho and his underrated trait during the 4-3 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

Saha, 45, spent four years at United, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League, after signing from Fulham in 2004. He was a first-hand witness to the growth of Cristiano Ronaldo while at Old Trafford.

Garnacho has turned from a super sub to an important starter for Erik ten Hag this season. He has started the last 26 games in a row for The Reds.

The 19-year-old played 120 minutes against Liverpool and did not stop running throughout the game. He provided the vital assist for Amad Diallo in the last minute of extra time while also creating the first and second goals for United in the 4-3 win.

“Basically, I’m speechless because what he did on Sunday against Liverpool was absolutely amazing. The guy is a superstar in the making, and I’m not exaggerating,” expressed Saha when speaking to BetFred.

“Maybe I was a bit critical, as we all were, of Cristiano Ronaldo when he first came to Manchester United because he was making the wrong choices, sometimes missing a simple pass, and that’s what Alejandro Garnacho was doing when he first came into the side, but he’s definitely improved since then.”

While the quality of the player cannot be compared, Garnacho’s development since he made his first-team debut can be looked at in a similar light to a young Ronaldo.

One aspect that the Argentine might trump the United legend in, however, is his incredible engine. When he was running through in the 120th minute on Sunday, you would’ve forgiven somebody for assuming he had only just entered the pitch.

Garnacho’s stamina for his age and playstyle is an underrated quality that he possesses, alongside the other attacking attributes he has.

“His touch has improved, his decision-making has improved and in the last few minutes of the game against Liverpool on Sunday, he provided the assist for Amad Diallo to score the winner. His stamina is amazing; the volume of his game is amazing and I don’t see anything that this boy can’t do,” added Saha.

“Cristiano Ronaldo used to surprise us game after game, so I can’t wait for Garnacho to play in a more confident side, where the manager has given him a bigger role to play and he can show off his personality and his confidence.

“You can not only see his confidence growing, but his level of maturity is improving as well. He no longer has that naivety in his game, and it’s an obligation for any youngster to come out and show their quality.

He appears very calm and composed, and when he’s creating, I’m very impressed. I was really surprised by his quality throughout the entire 120 minutes against Liverpool; it was unbelievable.”
